The Battle In Your Brain

By Frank Forza Curreri

Several years ago I was advising an elite athlete, a world champion in his sport.

Despite his amazingness, he was the super-nervous, Type A personality, high-anxiety type. Professional psychologists would label him OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (in my mind, OCD characteristics can be an awesome blessing; channeled properly, I’ve seen that neurotic behavior help legions of top performers climb the highest mountains in their professions).

In the case of the athletic wunderkind I was advising, at the tender age of 20, he was already and truly a genius at his craft. This extraordinary outlier was still a well-kept secret to most, but I knew it was only a matter of time until the world discovered what I had.

Over the course of 40 or so hours of conversations, I did my best to impress upon this 1-in-a-million Talent the mindset needed to ascend to the legend status he hungered for. A championship mindset that would enable him to squeeze every ounce out of his talent, a transcendent mindset that, combined with another 10-15 years of dominance on the playing field, might earn him a spot on the metaphorical Mount Rushmore of his sport.

“You must be so dominant,” I told him, “that your ‘C Game’ beats the competition’s A+ Game.’ You must be do dominant that your bad day, your off day, beats their best day.”

In other words: Be so great that, even on your worst day, you still find a way to defeat the world’s No. 2. It might be a nail-biter, but your C or D Game beats their A Game.

Now, you might not be an athlete. You might not consider yourself an outlier. And you might not be a Greatness Hunter.

So you might naturally be asking yourself, “Frank, that’s an interesting story, that’s a fascinating mindset, but what does it have to do with me and managing my own life and my own mind?”

Answer: Everything.

Whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not, you’re wired to win. You’re naturally wired to reach your highest level as a human.

Average habits = Average Results… and why on earth would that interest you? Nothing about average captivates you.

When I worked and traveled extensively for Ultimate Fighting Championship, I had the privilege of interviewing hundreds of the the world’s best cagefighters, and I also trained with dozens of them. The more I studied their minds and picked their brains, the more one particle of wisdom surfaced again and again:

“Fighting is 90 percent mental.”

Guess what, so is everything else in your life. This axiom is certainly NOT unique to UFC fighters.

For instance, if you’re like most people, then your personal health is one of the TOP 3 things that is most important to you.

But what people say, and what they do, are often totally different.

How many people regularly make their health, day-in day-out, a top priority?

Probably less than (STAT)

So I’ll tell you why so many people can’t stick to diets and nutrition — why most who start a diet will regain all the weight PLUS (STAT) within two years…

WHY?

Because if you lose the battle in your brain, you’re going to lose the battle against the bulge.

It’s that simple.

You can’t master Foodjitsu without first mastering Mindjitsu ..

We have put the cart before the horse… we have mixed up our priorities.

That’s why so many people lose the battle fo the bulge — because they are first losing the battle in their brain.
